Dr. Terry Greer was found not guilty by reason of mental defect in the killing of his wife Lisa and the attempted murder of his daughter.
Jefferson county Circuit Judge Tommy Nail handed down the verdict after testimony from a state-appointed mental health expert, Dr. Glen King.
King testified that Greer did not know right from wrong during the incident because he suffered from cardiac dementia and severe depression.
Judge Nail then committed Greer to the custody of the Alabama Department of Mental Health, after determining that Greer might pose a danger to himself or others if released back to the community.
Greer was the pastor of Gardendale-Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church when the incident took place in January 2013 in Gardendale.
We will have more on this story later.
