HAYDEN — The Walker Vikings improved their record to 2-1 on the season with a 39 - 6 victory over the Hayden Wildcats in a 5A, Region 6 battle at Robert W. Reid Stadium.

The Wildcats opened the scoring early in the first quarter when T. J. Rock found Gary Warden for 7 yards and a score.

Rock would finish the night with 75 yards passing.

He completed 9-of-19 throws.

The point-after attempt was blocked by the Walker defense, so Hayden led 6-0.

Walker then got on the board when Senior Quarterback Cory Wilkes (Wilkes' dad was the starting quarterback at Hayden 21 years ago) passed to Zachery Kennedy for 15 yards.

Jordan Pridemore added the point-after to give the Vikings a 7-6 lead with 6:31 on the first quarter clock.

Walker upped the lead when Wilkes hit Fred Jones on a five yard scoring strike.

Genesis McWorter ran the ball in for the 2-point conversion.

Walker was up 15-6.

Walker's Jones added a rushing score from 12 yards out. Pridemore's point-after upped the lead to 22 -6.

Wilkes connected with Royelle Dorrough for a 28-yard touchdown with 2:00 remaining in the first half of play. Pridemore added the point after.

Walker took a 29-6 lead into the locker room at the half.

Walker added 10 points in the second half on a 25-yard field goal by Pridemore and a 54-yard run by Ervin Allen.

The Vikings defense was particularly tough on the Hayden running game, as they held the Wildcats to only 47 yards rushing on 25 attempts.

Hayden record falls to (0 - 3 overall, 0 -2 in region play).

The Wildcats are on the road next week as they travel to Erwin, which lost for the first time Friday night at Cullman, 27-21.
