The high school softball season may be over, but that hasn’t kept Mortimer Jordan from moving up again in the national polls.

The Blue Devils advanced to ninth place in the USA Today/National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll on Friday. It’s the seventh straight week in the poll, and Jordan has moved up each week. The poll continues because several state, including the softball powerhouse states of California and Florida, have yet to conclude play for the season.

The poll continues for at least two more weeks.

Fultondale Stampede 5K Run June 20

If you see a flyer for the Fultondale Stampede 5K Run that says it’s the 81st annual running, just consider it a little joke by Race Director Sammy Morris.

It’s actually the 18th running — just swap the digits and you’ll get it. This year’s race takes place June 20 starting at 8 a.m. The start-finish line is at Walkers Chapel Baptist Church.

There are awards for 19 different age groups as well as the overall winner, plus a special “Clydesdale Division” for men over 200 pounds and women over 160.

The five kilometer (3.1 mile) course is USATF certified. There will also be a one-mile fun run/walk, and walkers are also welcome for the 5K. Registration is $12 plus a canned good ($16 on race day) for the 5K and $8 for the mile. Runners get a cap plus a chance to win one of more than 500 door prizes.

Runners can register at any Trak Shak location, or at Hibbett’s Sporting Goods in Gardendale and Fultondale.
