The Mortimer Jordan Lady Blue Devils won the Moody Girls Christmas tournament on Saturday behind the play of tourney MVP Brianna Nation.

Nation scored six points in the finals, but also collected six steals as Jordan whipped Moody, 30-23 in the final of the Moody girl’s tournament on Saturday night.

The win improved the record of coach Marty Caldwell’s club to 10-2 this season.

Ashlee Porter scored nine and grabbed eight rebounds. Peyton Davis had 10 points, 10 rebounds and four blocked shots.

Hayden girls tournament:


Priceville 64,

The Lady Wildcats lost in the semi-finals of their own holiday tournament over the weekend, when the Lady Bulldogs used a put back at the buzzer to win.

Hayden trailed 60-50 with just over two minutes to play when the the Lady Wildcats went on a 13-2 run to grab a 63-62 lead with 5.8 seconds to play.

During a time out, the officials after conferring with the Priceville bench added two seconds to the clock.

The extra time might have played a factor in the Lady Bulldogs having enough time to put back the rebound for the winning bucket.

Sam Niblett led the Hayden offense with 18 points, followed by Mallory Ray with 16, Krista Stricklin and Terri Sharp with nine points each, Tiffany Myrick with eight, Melissa Stricklin with two and Haley Daniel with one.

Ray, Sharp and Myrick all grabbed seven rebounds each. Ryan had five steals and Myrick had three blocked shots.

Third place game

Hayden 45,

Oneonta 28

The Lady Wildcats bounced back from the tough defeat to take the third place trophy.

Krista Stricklin led with 17 points, followed by Ray with 14, Myrick and Sharp with six each and Niblett scored two points.

Hayden used its height advantage over the Lady Redskins to win the rebounding battle.

Myrick had nine boards and Sharp eight. In addition, Sharp blocked eight shots and Myrick had three.

Stricklin had eight steals and five assists for the Lady Wildcats (8-6).

Moody boy’s tourney:

Ragland 62,

Hayden 53

The Wildcats fell for the second straight night in a close game. On Friday night, Hayden had lost to Mortimer Jordan.

The Purple Devils took a nine-point lead after one quarter, but then the Wildcats trimmed the lead to only three at the half, 27-24.

Entering the fourth and final quarter, the lead was down to two.

Nick Hardy had a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Josh Piteo had 12 points and seven rebounds. Ben Curry scored seven, Nick Burton had six, Will Yates had three, Owen Hargett, Cody Butler, Sean Davis and Ryan Davis scored two points each and Matt Stewart had one point.
