Girls basketball: Hayden 54, Appalachian 17

Hayden's girls turned an afternoon basketball game into a mercy-rule rout Monday, as they thumped Appalachian 54-17.

Brooke Meadows and Hollyn Chappell led the Wildcats with 10 points each. Katie Parr pulled down 11 rebounds and scored eight points.

Stephanie Metler led the Eagles (7-8) with 10 points.

Hayden (14-4) hosts Cleveland on Tuesday night, then travels to Mortimer Jordan for an important Class 5A Area 14 clash on Friday.
