Quarterback Devlin Hodges threw two touchdown passes and ran for another, as Mortimer Jordan got its fist win of the season with a 42-16 road victory over Curry on Friday night.
Hodges connected with tate Day on a 60-yard scoring pass on the Blue Devils’ second play from scrimmage. He later found Landon Smith for 18 yards and a score as time expired in the second half.
Jordan opened the game on a tear. After Hodges first score, running back Dee Merriweather found the end zone on runs of 16 and 2 yards, as the Devils were up 21-0 after the first quarter.
Curry put up its first points with 8:35 left in the half on a 21-yard Skyler Stephenson field goal.
Jordan the countered with a 3-yard touchdown run by Sam Blair.
The Yellow Jackets started to gain momentum with two scores in just under two minutes. Both came on touchdown passes from Bradley Loggins to tight end Lane Oliver, one for 10 yards and the other for 22 with 1:10 to go in the half.
The Devils marched down field quickly, however, and Hodges second TD throw as the clock hit zero gave Jordan a 35-16 lead at intermission.
Hodges scored his last touchdown on a 1-yard sneak with 13 seconds left in the third quarter.
Jordan had additional scoring opportunities, but two touchdowns were nullified by holding penalties. In total, the Devils were flagged 13 times fo r126 yards, but the Jackets also had nine infractions for 107 yards.
Dontress Green had six tackles for Jordan, and recovered both lost fumbles by Curry (1-2, 0-2 region). Andy Herrin and Connor Moon had seven tackles each.
Hodges finished with 204 yards passing, with 13 completions in 24 attempts.
Logan Motte returned to action after a high-ankle sprain, catching eight passes for an even 100 yards. Day had two receptions for 73 yards; he also ran nine times for 73 yards. Merriweather gained 75 yards on 12 carries.
