Kyle Woods pitched Mortimer Jordan to a 9-1 win over Hayden in the first game of a doubleheader Tuesday.

Mortimer Jordan cruised through a doubleheader that was basically a tune-up for Friday’s first round of the Class 5A playoffs, defeating Hayden 9-1 and 13-3, the latter game in six innings.

In the opening game, pitcher Kyle Woods struck out seven Wildcats in six innings’ work, allowing five hits and no earned runs.

Second baseman Luke Agnesia was 2-for-2 with a double and a sacrifice fly, driving in three runs. Let fielder Sam Blair was 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored. Catcher Taylor Goodwin also hit a triple and subsequently scored.

Elijah Todd took the loss on the mound for Hayden, giving up 10 hits.

Trent Dodson was 1-for-2 in his final game for the Cats.

In the nightcap, starter Justin Folse got his fifth win in as many decisions, giving up two hits and three runs, none earned. Reliever Walker McCleney struck out all three batters that he faced in the sixth.

Folse also led the Blue Devils (36-8) at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, two RBIs and three runs scored. Garrett Davis scored three times.

Bradley Melvin was the losing pitcher for the Cats, whose season comes to an end.

Jordan hosts Springville in the best-of-three first playoff round of Friday, with a doubleheader starting at 5 p.m.
