Corner senior Elizabeth Allred fired a no-hitter Thursday night against the Walker Lady Vikings. Corner won 8-1, as Allred fanned 15 and walked only two. The Lady Vikings scored an unearned run on a Lady Yellow Jacket error.

“I didn’t know until an hour after the game that I had thrown a no-hitter,” Allred said. “I thought I was throwing well, but didn’t realize I hadn’t allowed a hit.”

Allred said her new rise ball and also her curve were worked effectively. According to the senior, the two pitches provided her with the majority of her strikeouts.

“I was a bit surprised that all my pitches were working,” she said. “I added a rise ball and a change up in the off season and they were working as well as any of my other pitches.”

Allred improved to 2-0 on the season. During her junior season of 2007, Allred threw two no-hitters.
