Corner freshman Myka Rogers set a school record with her state championship time of 5:21.10 on May 2 in the girls 1,600 meter finals in Gulf Shores. 

Corner High School freshman Myka Rogers took home first place at the Alabama High School Athletic Association State Track and Field Meet on May 2.

Against the best Class 5A runners in the state, Rogers locked in a time of 5:21.10 in the girls 1,600 meter finals at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium in Gulf Shores. She beat Arab senior Megan Schwarze, the next best on the track, by nearly two seconds.

According to AlabamaRunners results, Rogers placed first in each of her seven 1,600 meter runs of the outdoor season.

• March 7, Arab Season Opener: First place with a time of 5:42.16

• April 15, Jefferson County Meet: First place with a time of 5:35.20

Rogers’ time of 5:21.10 at the state meet in Gulf Shores set a Corner High School record in the 1,600 meter run.
