Class 6A, Area 12 runner-up Pinson Valley (15-14) visits Area 9 champion Gardendale (17-7) in the first round of the playoffs.
The Rockets open up this home series with a doubleheader Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. An in-necessary third game would by played Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Indians traveled to Gardendale for a 5-3 loss on March 5 and fell to the Rockets for a second time at home on March 13, this time by a final of 14-7.
Class 5A, Area 11 runner-up Corner (20-14) is set to visit Area 12 champion Southside-Gadsden (20-12) this Friday for a best-two-out-of-three playoff series.
The Jackets will square off with a familiar opponent, as first-year Southside head coach Shane Chappell is a 2001 graduate of Corner High School. After six seasons as the head coach at Pinson Valley, Chappell accepted the Panthers’ head coaching position in June of 2018 and has since led the team to a No. 4 ranking in the Alabama Sports Writers Association Class 6A poll and an Area 12 title in his first season on the job.
Corner will toss the first pitch of the series on Friday at 4:30 p.m. with a second game to follow at 7. A Friday split would call for a winner-take-all game on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Class 3A, Area 8 runner-up Fultondale (5-12) travels to Area 7 champion Gordo (21-4) in the first round of the state baseball playoffs.
The Area 7 champions are currently ranked third in Class 3A, according to the Alabama Sports Writers Association.
This series opens with a Friday doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
