UPDATE: Gardendale Police obtained a warrant this afternoon for Stephanie Nicole Keller, 43, for murder, in the death of her husband, Andrew "Andy" Kimbrel. Keller is in the custody of Gardendale Police and will be transferred to the Jefferson County Jail on a single charge of murder. Her bond has been set at $100,000.


MIDDAY UPDATE: Vestavia Hills Police identified the deceased officer as Andrew "Andy" Wade Kimbrel. Kimbrel had been with Vestavia Hills Police since 2002, according to a statement from the department. He worked as a school resource officer, patrol officer and evidence technician. Prior to Vestavia Hills, Kimbrel worked for Fairfield Police Department.

“Andy was loved by his fellow officers and the community in which he chose to protect," Vestavia Hills Polide Department said in a release. "The Vestavia Police Department extends our gratitude to the community for their outpouring of support during this difficult time.”

Kimbrel is survived by a wife and two children. 


UPDATE: Gardendale Police said the deceased was a Vestavia Hills police officer. His name has not been released. Police said he was a 42-year-old white male.


Gardendale Police are investigating a shooting that occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Thursday at Woodbrook Apartments in Gardendale. 

Officers responded to a call of a person who had been shot at the location. Upon arrival, they found one person suffering from a gunshot wound. The individual was transported to a local hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

Police are withholding the identification of the deceased while the investigation is ongoing. 

Gardendale Police Lt. Scott Banks said they believe the shooting was domestic in nature and there was no danger to the public.
