A student at Pinson Valley High School was killed and another critically injured in a one-car crash Saturday on Alabama Highway 75.

Jordan Long, 17, was identified by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Monday as the sole fatality in the crash. Long had previously been identified online by fellow students and staff at the school.

According to the sheriff's office, the crash occurred at about 2:45 p.m. near Highway 75's intersection with Faucett Cut-Off Road, about three quarters of a mile northeast of PVHS.

Deputies report that four teenagers were in the car, in which the driver (Long) lost control and ran off the road. Long was declared dead at the scene.

Three other PVHS students were riding in the car. Mitch Wilson, Colton Chatham and Justin Hughes were injured, with Wilson being taken to a hospital and the others treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Students at the school have been asked to wear red in memory of Long, particularly at Tuesday night's basketball game with Moody.
