Katie Davis Williams is a Gardendale native and resident. She works at the Gardendale-Martha Moore Public Library.
What do you do at the library?
I do a little bit of everything. OK, let me make that a little more concise: I work at the circulation desk and do a lot of children’s programming. I also do displays inside the library. I’m also helping to organize the building to get ready for our new expansion project. Even though I’m very organized here, my car and house are a wreck! I’m a very unconventional librarian; I don’t know how to be quiet. They call me the “Loud Librarian.” People also tell me I’m a good motivator.
How did you start working at the library?
I have a masters in library science from the University of Alabama, and a bachelors degree from Huntington College in Montgomery. I taught high school English one year, then I started working here, and I fell in love with it. I’ve always liked to read; it’s all I do. I like to read young adult novels the best, and I think that’s because I like working with teenagers. I also used to read to kids when I first started working here, and I really enjoy doing the children’s programs.
Tell us something else about yourself that isn’t about your job.
My parents are Allen and Donna Davis. My father is the pastor at East Gardendale Baptist Church, and I’m very active in that church, too. I love going to the lake and spending time with my family. I have some wonderful nieces and nephews. I love Gardendale because it’s a small friendly community, and it’s close to Birmingham. I’m single, and I love my dog, Sophie.
