North Jefferson Relay For Life is seeking nominations for an honorary chairperson.
An honorary chairperson is someone in the community who has been affected by cancer in some way. He or she can be a cancer survivor, or a caregiver or family member of a survivor.
“Really, our honorary chair is the face of Relay For Life,” said Kristin McDonald, development representative for the American Cancer Society. “We want them to get involved by speaking at the event, attending meetings and giving input if they would like to, and encouraging others in the community to get involved.”
Relay For Life is a fund-raiser for the American Cancer Society.
Past honorary chairs for the North Jefferson Relay for Life are Charlotte Guffin, Alex Swader and many other local residents.
Nominations should be turned in by March 15. Jenn Booth, event chair, said the local Relay committee will vote on the submissions and will announce the honorary chair.
The North Jefferson Relay For Life event is set for May 19 at noon at the Gardendale Civic Center.
Organizers are also asking for individuals to form teams to support the event.
