Good Tuesday morning, hope your holiday weekend was fun…

Weather: More storms are possible today, after we got a good soaking and a few rumbles of thunder on Labor Day. The high today will be in the middle 80s, with tonight’s low in the lower 70s. The chance of rain is 60 percent today, 30 percent tonight. Showers will become more scattered and less frequent Wednesday.

The Dems’ turn now. The Democratic National Convention begins in earnest today in Charlotte. First Lady Michelle Obama is tonight’s keynote speaker. Her husband will accept the nomination for re-election on Thursday. President Obama is trailing Mitt Romney slightly in most national polls after the GOP convention last week.

Blount County man killed. Marlin Sisson of Cleveland, 63, was killed in a two-vehicle accident on Alabama 79 five miles north of Pinson, according to Alabama State Troopers. Sisson’s car collided with another driven by two Birmingham residents, who were injured and taken to UAB Hospital.

Sports: Toros charge on ESPN. Spanish Fort came back with a touchdown run by Sammy Tolbert with 90 seconds left to grab a 20-14 victory over Daphne in a Labor Day high school football game televised nationally on ESPN…. College football: Virginia Tech tied the game with a Cody Journell 41-yard field goal as regulation time expired, then booted a 17-yarder in overtime to give the Hokies a 20-17 win over Georgia Tech…. Golf: Rory McIlroy struggled over the second nine at TPC Boston, but managed to hang on to a one-shot lead over Louis Oosthuizen to win the Deustsche Bank Championship, the second leg of the PGA FedEx Cup playoffs. Tiger Woods placed third, and in doing so broke the $100 million mark in career earnings, the first player ever to reach that milestone…. Baseball: The bad news — Braves pitcher Kris Melden’s scoreless streak ended at 34-2/3 innings, broken on a throwing error. The good news — Melden recorded 12 strikeouts and got a 6-1 complete-game win over Colorado Monday in Atlanta. The Braves stay comfortably on top of the National League wild card standings.
