ALDOT to conduct lane shift on I-65 today

The Alabama Department of Transportation announced Friday that traffic operations will begin, weather permitting, today at 11 a.m. on I-65 southbound from 41st Avenue to 16th Street as part of the widening project for the tie-ins with Corridor X. Crews will be shifting the three southbound travel lanes toward the inside shoulder. Temporary traffic stripes will be painted in this area to allow extra space on the outside of the roadway for building the additional travel lane. A temporary barrier wall between the three existing southbound lanes and the outside shoulder will be built. The lane shifting operation is expected to be completed by Sunday morning. The lanes will remain in a shifted configuration for approximately 12 months.
