A group in Gardendale wants to give voters every possible chance to meet those who will be on the ballots on Nov. 2.
The North Jefferson County Republican Club is hosting an open house and reception Thursday at the Gardendale Civic Center.
“We’d like to get as many of the candidates in front of the public as we can to give people a chance to know them,” said Joel Kimbrough, president of the club. “They are our servants and it’s important we get to know them.”
Several candidates have confirmed they will be at the meeting, including Jefferson County Sheriff Mike Hale, Jefferson County District Attorney Brandon Falls, Jefferson County Commission candidate Jimmy Stephens and judicial candidates Virginia Meigs, Chuck Hunter and Eddie Vines.
“It is so important that people know who they’re voting for and where candidates stand,” Kimbrough said. “The only way to make candidates accountable to us is to know them and have personal contact with them. There’s nothing like a face-to-face meeting to find out who they are.”
The event is scheduled for Thursday, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Gardendale Civic Center. Doors open at 6 p.m. There is no charge for admission.
