David Peterson is a cast member in the upcoming production of “13 Alabama Ghosts and Jeffrey” at the Gardendale Civic Center on July 11-12 and 14-17 at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the civic center.

What’s your theater background like?

I’ve been doing it since high school. I just finished doing theater for two years at Wallace State Community College; I was in every production, and built sets. I’m designing and building the set for “13 Alabama Ghosts.” Building it is going to be evil. It’ll look like the front of a small house with a door and two windows. I’ll probably put the side walls on hinges so the actors can come and go between scenes.

What are your plans for the future?

I’m taking some time off from school to save up to go to Chicago. I’m hoping to go to the Second City. Lots of comedic actors got their start there: Bill Murray, Tina Fey, Stephen Colbert... Everyone got their start there.

Do you have any other interests?

I barbecue in a smoker. My friend from England just discovered barbecue, and we’re sortof in a contest. After the big storms hit in April, My brother and I drove around Warrior in my grandfather’s truck looking for downed hickory trees. Whenever we’d find one in a yard, we’d knock on the person’s door and ask if we could take it. I’ve been stockpiling it for July 4.

Tell us about your family.

I live with my grandparents in Kimberly. I also have a neice and nephew. We’re a pretty close-knit family.
