A man with Gardendale roots is celebrating his 70th birthday by publishing his first book.

Ronald Travis Sr. has written “The Synergistic Life Style: How to Set Goals and Live a Balanced and Abundant Life,” book covering nine areas in which people should set goals.

The areas are: Spiritual, mental, emotional, physical, marriage, children, support group, financial and work.

The book, dedicated to Travis’ wife June, is about their adventures as they move toward one of their goals to reach their golden wedding anniversary together in 2011.

The couple has taught senior high-school students and beginning couples in church classes and seminars during the past 40 years.

They have learned many of the principles shared in the book while experiencing problems and setbacks in their lives. Each chapter includes their beliefs about the things needed to live an abundant life.

When one adds up all of the lessons learned in each chapter, the synergistic result will be a balanced life greater than the sum of each area, according to a press release.

Also in the book are several pictures that include Ron’s brother Gary Travis, Dr. Jim Day Sr. and other north Jefferson County residents.

Travis is a certified public accountant with certificates from Washington D.C. and Alabama. His career includes three years in public accounting, two years as an officer in the U.S. Army Finance Corps, 10 years as CFO and senior vice president for two subsidiaries of Kane-Miller Corp., 19 years as CFO and senior vice president of McWane Inc., and president of Travis Management Systems LLP.

“The Synergistic Life Style,” published by AuthorHouse in January 2009, is available at The Encouraging Word Bookstore at Gardendale First Baptist Church, at the Family Christian Stores in Fultondale and Inverness Plaza, and online at authorhouse.com and amazon.com.

All royalties from the book go to charity.
