MORRIS — Mortimer Jordan moved closer to another area title on Friday, as they whipped Hayden to remain the only unbeaten team in the 5A, Area 12 tournament.
On Thursday night, Jordan crushed Walker and with Friday night’s win, moved into the tourney finals. At press time, the results of the final game were not available, due to a late starting time.

In the tourney semi-finals, the Lady Blue Devils (41-4) moved into the finals behind the pitching of senior Michelle Cheatwood.
Cheatwood was in control the whole way, as she allowed only three hits and struck out 10 Lady Wildcats to improve to 21-2 this year.
Cheatwood allowed a single in the first inning to Mara Conner, a double to Madison Durham in the fourth inning and a double to Destinee Wade in the fifth inning. Only one runner advance as far as third base for Hayden.
Jordan’s offense was powered by freshman shortstop Danae Hayes, who went 4-for-4, with a double, scored three runs, had two RBIs and stole a base.
Hayes drove in two runs in the first inning with a single, as Jordan took a 2-0 after half an inning.
Jordan added a run in th fourth inning, when Hayes doubled and moved to third on a passed ball.
She would score on Kayla Cox’s ground out to shortstop.
In the top of the sixth, Hayes singled and then moved all the way to third on Shelbey Faucett’s sacrifice bunt.
Hayes scored on Cox’s second ground out to the infield.
In the seventh, Jordan added four runs.
Blair Johnson led off the frame with a double. She came home on Erin Whitlock’s triple to right field.
Whitlock then scored on Morgan “Mo” Estell’s double off the wall in left center. Estell missed a home run by a matter of inches.
Estell moved to third on an error and came home on a passed ball.
Hayes then collected her fourth hit, a single and later scored the eighth Jordan run.
Wade (5-4) took the loss, as she allowed 12 hits and struck out five.
Hayden slipped to (12-21).

The Lady Blue Devils (40-4), won behind the shutout pitching of freshman Blair Johnson (20-1), who fired a three-hitter and struck out eight.
At the plate, Shelbey Faucett went 4-for-4 with a home run and three doubles.
According to the AHSAA web site, Faucett’s three doubles is one short of the state record for one game.
Logan Woodward went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer. Brandy Worden went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBIs. Morgan “Mo” Estell went 2-for-4 with an RBI, a stolen base and three runs scored. Johnson went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a stolen base.
Freshman Mara Conner had her best game of the season, as she struck out 17 batters in leading the Lady Wildcats to the win. She improved to 5-9 this season.
At the plate, Madison Durham went 2-for-2 with a home run, one run scored and two RBIs. Conner went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Laila Russell went 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and one RBI.
Meagan Holt went 2-for-4 with a run scored. Brittany Putnam had a hit and scored a run. Ashlan Dutton had a hit, a run scored and one RBI.
Hayden improved to 12-20.
