The annual World Spay Day will be Feb. 26. Locally, the Animal League of Birmingham, Friends of Cats and Dogs and Mercy Animal Clinic will partner to spay and neuter companion animals. This year, the event will focus on spaying and neutering the pets of veterans and active duty military personnel for a cost of just $10.

While the groups have already been able to raise the funds necessary to fund the discounted surgeries, they have not had a large number of veterans or active duty military personnel who have signed up for the surgeries. All surgeries will be performed at Mercy in Gardendale and must be done on Feb. 26.

Surgeries will be scheduled on a first come, first serve basis for veterans and those currently serving in the military.

There is no residency requirement for the surgeries, but the pet owner must be able to get their pet to Mercy in Gardendale that morning.
