On Saturday night, Gardendale Police and Fire and Rescue responded to the Gardendale WalMart on Odum Road after a bomb threat was reportedly called in to the store at approximately 6:30 p.m.

Gardendale Police evacuated the store and, with help from an explosive detection canine unit from Jefferson County Sheriff ’s Office, searched the entire building. No threat was found and the store was reopened at approximately 9 p.m.

Gardendale Police Lt. Scott Banks said the department was still investigating the source of the threat. It is a serious crime to create a bomb threat, even if there is no danger to the public, costing the store revenue, frightening employees and customers, inconveniencing customers and tying up emergency services.

He asks that anyone with information on the incident, should contact the police department at 631-8787.
