Ladies, please join Beechwood Baptist Church in Mt. Olive for a night of free fun and games on April 29, from 7 to 9 p.m. Child care is available by reservation only. Please call 631-4531 to make child care reservations or for more information.

• The Beta Chi chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, the professional sorority for women educators, met April 3 at the Gardendale Civic Center. Member Nancy Goolsby was recognized for being selected as Adamsville Elementary’s “Second Mile Teacher.” Member Cindy Vines was recognized for being selected as Jefferson County School System’s Elementary Teacher of the Year. Teachers enjoyed a light meal of chicken and pasta salad, strawberry pie and key lime pie prepared by Ms. Cates. Everyone went away with new, easy recipes, sugar free and reduced fat for both pies. The next meeting will be held on May 1 at the home of Susan Jarvis.

• Gardendale High School student council is holding a yard sale on April 26 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the high school parking lot. The cost is $20 for two spots. Call Mandy Adams for more information at 531-1094.

• The Birmingham Zoo is still in need of old cell phones. They are also asking for old kiddie pools. If you have an old cell phone or an old pool, please donate it. You can drop them off at Dependable Glass on Main Street in Gardendale or call 612-8293.
