James Howard Bain, age 77, was born April 15, 1931, and went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 31, 2009, at his home in Gardendale with his family by his side. He was born in Athens and graduated from Ardmore High School. Howard was a resident of Gardendale since 1949 and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired from Roadway Express with 32 years of service. He was a member of Gardendale’s First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Jeffrey; mother, Avo Bain; father, Cornelius Bain; brother, John Walter Bain and sister, Carrie Wallace. Howard was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jewel Dean; two daughters and a son, Glenda Peak (Jim) of Mn., Sandra Bain Moon (Steve) of Hoover, James H. Bain, Jr. (Gina) of Fultondale; four grandchildren, Lindsay and Logan Peak, Trevor and Taylor Bain; nephews, Den nis Bain (Terri), Danny Bain (Liz) all of Decatur, Grady Bain (Julie) Bain of Athens, Jerry Wallace (Leone) of Mi.; niece, Jo Ann Klos (Skip) of Mi. Funeral services were held on Tuesday February 3, 2009, at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Gardendale Funeral Home with Rev. Leon Zalenski officiating. Interment followed at Oakwood Memorial Gardens. The family wishes to thank Hilda and Mary, his caregivers of 8 years, the Veteran’s Palliative Care, Mid-South Home Health and Community Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Gardendale’s First Baptist Church Building Fund at 940 Main St. Gardendale, AL 35071.
