Reunion

Historical Marker Dedication

Oct. 24 There will be a dedication of a historical marker for John Belcher Cemetery on Snow Rogers Road across from old Ebenezer Church on Oct. 24 at 10 a.m.



Fall Festival

Oct. 25 Gardendale Church of the Nazarene will hold a fall festival on Oct. 25 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is a free event. For more information call 631-5452.



Yard Sale

Oct. 25 Gardendale Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church will have a yard sale on Oct. 24 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Oct. 25 from 8 a.m. to noon. All money raised will go toward their missions. For more information call Paul Weigert at 631-7631.



Meeting for Trip

Nov. 6 A question and answer meeting for a trip to Hawaii in 2009 will be held at Bragg Middle School Library on Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. Call Pat McGrady at 631-7170 or Janice Wicker at 631-5451 after 5 p.m.



Concert

Nov. 14 Alabama Teen Challenge is putting together a benefit concert to be held at Gardendale’s First Baptist Church on Nov. 14, 7 p.m., with Shawn McDonald, Leah Faith and Jake Smith to perform. Teen Challenge is now celebrating it’s 50th anniversary of helping men, women, and teenagers defeat their drug and alcohol problem. Tickets for this event are currently on sale at www.itickets.com for $10 in advance or can be purchased at the door for $14. Groups of 10 or more are $8 each. TOPS Meetings

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meets Mondays at 6 p.m. in the Family Life Center of First Baptist Church, Room 2028. Robert Pliner is the leader. For more information call 608-0606.

Free Child Care

There will be free child care in the Mt. Olive area for 3 and 4 year olds. The head start program is now enrolling for the summer. Regular full day childcare is offered. Call 608-1661.

Open House

Oct. 25 The Kimberly Fire Department will host an open house on Oct. 25, 4-6 p.m., with refreshments provided. Come meet your volunteer firefighters and thank them for what they do. For more information, call 647-5551.



Haunted Hayride

Oct. 31 The town of Kimberly will have its annual Haunted Hayride on Oct. 31, 6 p.m., at Kimberly Municipal Park. There is no charge. Hot dogs and chips will be provided.



Christmas in Kimberly

October-Nov.21 The town of Kimberly will be taking applications for Christmas in Kimberly until Nov. 21. For more information, call Mona at Kimberly Town Hall, 647-5551.



Christmas parade

Dec. 13 The town of Kimberly will host its fourth annual Christmas parade on Dec. 13 at 6 p.m. There is no entry fee. For an application, call Mona at Kimberly Town Hall, 647-5551. A tree-lighting ceremony will follow at Kimberly Memorial Park.

Homecoming

Oct. 26 Faith Tabernacle will have homecoming on Oct. 26 at 10 a.m. with Bro. John Meader. Guest singers are Rocks of Faith, Bro. Charles Cotton and Rhythm and Blues Gospel.



Mother’s Day Out

Enon Baptist Church’s Mother Day Out program will offer childcare for 6 weeks to 4-years-old on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. We follow the Jefferson County School system calendar, so we are out during all of their breaks. For more information call 647-9614.

Haunted Barn

Oct. 25 and 31 Corner High School baseball team will hold a Halloween haunted barn on Oct. 25 and Oct. 31. Entrance is free, but every $5 donation puts you in a drawing to win prizes. There will be a free movie by the fire and popcorn, hot dogs, sweets, drinks and much more at 8020 Wade Road.



Reunion

Nov. 2 All descendants of William Casey Jones are encouraged to attend the Jones family reunion on Nov. 2 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Warrior Community Center. Lunch will be at 1 p.m. Bring your favorite dish. For additional information call Harold Jones at 647-5948 or Sharon Brown at 647-2424.

Medicare Tour

Nov. 20 from 9:30 a.m. - noon at the Birmingham Botanical Garden’s Auditorium, “Let’s Talk Turkey” Medicare Van Tour will take place. This is a free event for seniors and Medicare beneficiaries to receive the latest information on Medicare and other health benefits. Health screenings will be provided. Food for Vets

Help support hunger for the disabled Marine Corps vets. We need any kind of meat and any game meat and any other food items not perishable can be accepted. For more details call 608-3180.

    April 24: The annual Brookside Greenway Festival will include arts and crafts as well as yard sale spaces. Booth rent is $10 for a 10x10 space. Electricity can be provided.     Town Hall Meeting

    April 22 Choices and Consequences, a free town hall meeting for seniors, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Gardendale Civic Center. Speaker Lynn Campisi, an elder law attorney, will enlighten seniors on the many choices available to them in terms of legal issues. Sponsoring vendors will have information available.     Health Fair

    Fund-raiser

    April 25 Bragg Middle School’s Future Problem Solver team is holding a yard sale, carwash and doughnut sale at Paradise RV Sales parking lot, 644 Decatur Highway, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., to raise money for its trip to Michigan for the national competition. Call Shannon at 903-4698.

    Registration

    April 16 Snow Rogers and Gardendale Elementary Schools will host Kindergarten registration on April 16, 5-7 p.m. You must bring your child with you for a short assessment. The following documents must be provided for enrollment: Birth certificate; Social Security card; blue Certificate of Immunization (IMM-50), which should include two measles immunizations and one for chicken pox; two proofs of residence; copy of parent’s driver license; custody papers where applicable. Registration will be permitted without immunization certificate, but certificate must be presented before school begins on Aug. 12. A child’s fifth birthday must be on or before Sept. 1 to enroll in Kindergarten. Child’s sixth birthday must be on or before Sept. 1 to enroll in first grade.     Flower Show

    April 16-17 The Federated Garden Clubs of North End Council is hosting its 58th annual flower show at the Gardendale Civic Center. The show is open to the public on April 16, 2-7 p.m., and April 17, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, call Phoebe Limbaugh at 631-6137.



    Indoor Yard Sale

    April 17, 18 North Gardendale Baptist Church is holding an indoor yard sale on April 17 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and April 18 from 7 a.m. to noon. If you would like to donate items contact Scott Crews at 368-8071 or the church office at 631-8079. Proceeds benefit the VBS Belize Mission Trip.

    April 11 Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will hold an Easter egg hunt on April 11 at 4 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend this event.



    Last Game at Field

    April 11 Please come out and support the Gardendale High School Rockets Baseball team on April 11. This will be the last regular season home game on the current high school field. There will be three games with the JV starting at 11 a.m. and the varsity playing the last game at 4:30 p.m.



    Revival

    April 12 Glenn’s Chapel Baptist Church will have a revival on April 12 at 6 p.m. and Monday and Tuesday at 7 p.m. Zac Reno is a 24 year-old evangelist and one of the finest of our day.     April 4 The second annual night time Easter egg hunt will take place on April 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the Moncrief Park behind the tennis courts. This event is co-sponsored by The Church Revived and the city of Gardendale. There will be food, games and prizes. Bring your flashlight. Everything is free.



    Walk For Life

    April 4 Walk for Life for the North Jefferson Women's Center will be held on April 4 at 10 a.m. Please show your support for life by joining us at this walk. For more information call 608-0757.



    Easter Egg Hunt

    April 5 There will be a community Easter egg hunt on April 5 from 3:30-6:30 p.m. at Black Creek Park.
