Dinner and a Movie
Gardendale Friendship United Methodist Church will sponsor a dinner and a movie for the children every Friday night at 6 p.m. If you need assistance please call 285-9340.
Ladies Bible Study
On Tuesday mornings from 9 to 11 a.m. at Gardendale First Baptist Church, there will be classes on various subjects taught by different teachers from the church. The subjects include “when wallflowers dance,” “marriage,” “Lord, is it warfare? Teach me to stand.” “Can we talk? Soul stirring conversations with God.” On Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 8 p.m. there will be another class on warfare taught by Kay Arthur. For more information call the church. Archery Shoot
Sept. 13 If you’re looking for a great place to shoot your bow, then check out the 3D Archery Shoot on Sept. 13 at Gardendale First Baptist Church "Camp David" Jones Chapel. Admission is free. 50th Anniversary
Sept. 14 The 50th anniversary celebration on Central Baptist Church will take place on Sept. 14 from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The special speaker will be Henry Cox. Morning service will be followed by a covered dish luncheon. There will be an afternoon celebration starting at 2 p.m. including former pastors, members and ministers of music. Childcare for birth through four years old is provided. There will also be activities for children five years old through fifth grade during the afternoon service. Fund Raiser
Sept 16 Snow Rogers Elementary School will hold a fund raiser with Swamp John’s Restaurant on Sept. 16 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Dine in or carry out. The cost is $8 per plate that includes your choice of fish, chicken or shrimp and slaw, fries, hush puppies, pickle, onion and tea. To purchase tickets call 379-5400.
Banquet
Sept 25 The North Jefferson Women's Center will host their annual "Celebrate Life" banquet and silent auction with special guest Kevin Derryberry on Sept. 25. The event will be held at Gardendale First Baptist Church on Main Street with the silent auction beginning at 5:30 p.m.and the dinner banquet/concert beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 for dinner/banquet/concert and may be purchased at the North Jefferson Women's Center located at 1601 Mulberry Lane in Gardendale or at the Encouraging Word Bookstore located at the church. Fall Carnival
Sept. 26 The Gardendale Elementary School carnival will take place on Sept. 26 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Gardendale Civic Complex. All proceeds go toward student desks, chairs and a new fence. Over 30 carnival games, pony rides and inflatables will be there along with an old fashioned bake sale, glow in dark items, live and silent auction and live entertainment all night. New this year is the dance floor inside the civic center.
Golf Tournament
Oct. 3 The Gardendale High School PTSA will host the annual Tom Smith Homecoming Golf Tournament at Castle Pines Golf Course. Entry fee of $75 per player includes lunch and prizes. Proceeds benefit Gardendale High School. Call Susan Rice 631-8350 or Alan Morgan 631-3140 for more info.
Catholic Faith Classes

Reunion
Oct. 3, 4 Gardendale's Alumni from the Class of 1968 are planning reunion activities the week-end of homecoming. They will not only participate in the parade, but will attend the game and enjoy homecoming festivities. 1968 was the first year that GHS had a graduating class and this is the group of students who experienced all the “firsts.” They wrote the alma mater, chose the school colors and mascot, chartered all the clubs and published the first edition of the annual Rendezvous. A large number of these graduates remained in Gardendale and have made a big contribution to the development of our city. They plan to attend the homecoming game on Oct. 3, then have a dinner and entertainment at the Exhibition Hall of the Gardendale Civic Center on Oct. 4. Concert
Nov. 14 Alabama Teen Challenge is putting together a benefit concert to be held at Gardendale’s First Baptist Church on Nov. 14, 7 p.m., with Shawn McDonald, Leah Faith and Jake Smith to perform. Teen Challenge is now celebrating it’s 50th anniversary of helping men, women, and teenagers defeat their drug and alcohol problem. Tickets for this event are currently on sale at www.itickets.com for $10 in advance or can be purchased at the door for $14. Groups of 10 or more are $8 each. Donations for school
Now-Sept. 15 Superior Bank on Mt. Olive Road is collecting school supplies for Mt. Olive Elementary School from now until Sept. 15. K-5 supply lists are available at the bank, or drop off any supplies that the school can use. There is also a donation box to contribute cash.
Judgement House
Oct. 15 Judgement House at First Baptist Mt. Olive will be Oct. 15, 18-19, 22-23, 25-26, 29-31 and Nov. 1-2 For reservations, call 631-4557. The church is asking for a $5 donation for each person.
Free Child Care

Registration
April 16 Snow Rogers and Gardendale Elementary Schools will host Kindergarten registration on April 16, 5-7 p.m. You must bring your child with you for a short assessment. The following documents must be provided for enrollment: Birth certificate; Social Security card; blue Certificate of Immunization (IMM-50), which should include two measles immunizations and one for chicken pox; two proofs of residence; copy of parent’s driver license; custody papers where applicable. Registration will be permitted without immunization certificate, but certificate must be presented before school begins on Aug. 12. A child’s fifth birthday must be on or before Sept. 1 to enroll in Kindergarten. Child’s sixth birthday must be on or before Sept. 1 to enroll in first grade.
