Dinner and a Movie

Gardendale Friendship United Methodist Church will sponsor a dinner and a movie for the children every Friday night at 6 p.m. If you need assistance please call 285-9340.



Ladies Bible Study

Sept. 9 On Tuesday mornings from 9 to 11 a.m. at Gardendale First Baptist Church, there will be classes on various subjects taught by different teachers from the church. The subjects include “when wallflowers dance,” “marriage,” “Lord, is it warfare? Teach me to stand.” “Can we talk? Soul stirring conversations with God.” On Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 8 p.m. there will be another class on warfare taught by Kay Arthur. For more information call the church. Archery Shoot

Sept. 13 If you’re looking for a great place to shoot your bow, then check out the 3D Archery Shoot on Sept. 13 at Gardendale First Baptist Church "Camp David" Jones Chapel. Admission is free. There will be divisions for all skill levels- beginners to pro. Registration begins at 8 a.m. For more information contact, Allen Oakley at 488-8716.



GriefShare

Sept. 7 The First Baptist Church of Gardendale is offering a fall session of GriefShare for those who have lost a loved one. The sessions are designed to help the participants to go from mourning to joy. The cost is $12 for the workbook. Childcare is also available. The group will meet starting Sept. 7 at 6 p.m. in room 1025 of the educational building. For a brochure or further information call Sherry at 488-8715.



Fund Raiser

Sept 16 Snow Rogers Elementary School will hold a fund raiser with Swamp John’s Restaurant on Sept. 16 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Dine in or carry out. The cost is $8 per plate that includes your choice of fish, chicken or shrimp and slaw, fries, hush puppies, pickle, onion and tea. To purchase tickets call 379-5400.



Banquet

Sept 25 The North Jefferson Women's Center will host their annual "Celebrate Life" banquet and silent auction with special guest Kevin Derryberry on Sept. 25. The event will be held at Gardendale First Baptist Church on Main Street with the silent auction beginning at 5:30 p.m.and the dinner banquet/concert beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 for dinner/banquet/concert and may be purchased at the North Jefferson Women's Center located at 1601 Mulberry Lane in Gardendale or at the Encouraging Word Bookstore located at the church. Fall Carnival

Sept. 26 The Gardendale Elementary School carnival will take place on Sept. 26 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Gardendale Civic Complex. All proceeds go toward student desks, chairs and a new fence. Over 30 carnival games, pony rides and inflatables will be there along with an old fashioned bake sale, glow in dark items, live and silent auction and live entertainment all night. New this year is the dance floor. You can dance to your favorite songs inside the civic center. Don't miss the biggest fall event in north Jefferson County next to football!



Reunion

Oct. 3, 4 Gardendale's Alumni from the Class of 1968 are planning reunion activities the week-end of homecoming. They will not only participate in the parade, but will attend the game and enjoy homecoming festivities. 1968 was the first year that GHS had a graduating class and this is the group of students who experienced all the “firsts.” They wrote the alma mater, chose the school colors and mascot, chartered all the clubs and published the first edition of the annual Rendezvous. A large number of these graduates remained in Gardendale and have made a big contribution to the development of our city. They plan to attend the homecoming game on Oct. 3, then have a dinner and entertainment at the Exhibition Hall of the Gardendale Civic Center on Oct. 4. Concert

Sept. 6 Daystar Church International is hosting a free Christian concert Sept. 6, 6:30 p.m., featuring Inside/Out. Concessions will be available. The church is on Shady Grove Road off of Mt. Olive Road. For more information, call 563-6605.



Donations for school

Now-Sept. 15 Superior Bank on Mt. Olive Road is collecting school supplies for Mt. Olive Elementary School from now until Sept. 15. K-5 supply lists are available at the bank, or drop off any supplies that the school can use. There is also a donation box to contribute cash.



Free Child Care

There will be free child care in the Mt. Olive area for 3 and 4 year olds. The head start program is now enrolling for the summer. Regular full day childcare is offered. Call 608-1661.

Sept. 6 First Baptist Church of Trafford will be holding our annual bake and yard sale Sept. 6, from 8 - 2. We will offer our famous homemade fried apple pies, cakes, hotdogs, and sausage biscuits for sale. We will also have many yard sale items, including household items and clothing. Churches of the Nazarene

Sept. 13 The Birmingham Zone Churches of the Nazarene will hold a combined celebration service Sept. 13 at Birmingham First Church of the Nazarene. In addition to this combined celebration each Nazarene church around the world will be celebrating on Oct. 5. For more information call 790-5180.

    April 22 Choices and Consequences, a free town hall meeting for seniors, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Gardendale Civic Center. Speaker Lynn Campisi, an elder law attorney, will enlighten seniors on the many choices available to them in terms of legal issues. Sponsoring vendors will have information available.     Registration

    April 16 Snow Rogers and Gardendale Elementary Schools will host Kindergarten registration on April 16, 5-7 p.m. You must bring your child with you for a short assessment. The following documents must be provided for enrollment: Birth certificate; Social Security card; blue Certificate of Immunization (IMM-50), which should include two measles immunizations and one for chicken pox; two proofs of residence; copy of parent’s driver license; custody papers where applicable. Registration will be permitted without immunization certificate, but certificate must be presented before school begins on Aug. 12. A child’s fifth birthday must be on or before Sept. 1 to enroll in Kindergarten. Child’s sixth birthday must be on or before Sept. 1 to enroll in first grade.     Flower Show

    April 16-17 The Federated Garden Clubs of North End Council is hosting its 58th annual flower show at the Gardendale Civic Center. The show is open to the public on April 16, 2-7 p.m., and April 17, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, call Phoebe Limbaugh at 631-6137.



    Indoor Yard Sale

    April 11 Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will hold an Easter egg hunt on April 11 at 4 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend this event.



    Last Game at Field

    April 11 Please come out and support the Gardendale High School Rockets Baseball team on April 11. This will be the last regular season home game on the current high school field. There will be three games with the JV starting at 11 a.m. and the varsity playing the last game at 4:30 p.m.



    Revival

    April 12 Glenn’s Chapel Baptist Church will have a revival on April 12 at 6 p.m. and Monday and Tuesday at 7 p.m. Zac Reno is a 24 year-old evangelist and one of the finest of our day.     April 4 The second annual night time Easter egg hunt will take place on April 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the Moncrief Park behind the tennis courts. This event is co-sponsored by The Church Revived and the city of Gardendale. There will be food, games and prizes. Bring your flashlight. Everything is free.



    Walk For Life

    Easter Egg Hunt
