Gardendale



Town Hall Meeting

April 22 Choices and Consequences, a free town hall meeting for seniors, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Gardendale Civic Center. Speaker Lynn Campisi, an elder law attorney, will enlighten seniors on the many choices available to them in terms of legal issues. Sponsoring vendors will have information available. Door prizes and a sack lunch will be provided. Call Dixie Kuykendall 631-0049.



Health Fair

April 24 The Gardendale Senior Center Health Fair, 9 a.m. to noon at the Gardendale Civic Center. Any local businesses having senior interest, call Peggy at 631-7240.



Fund-raiser

April 25 Bragg Middle School’s Future Problem Solver team is holding a yard sale, carwash and doughnut sale at Paradise RV Sales parking lot, 644 Decatur Highway, from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., to raise money for its trip to Michigan for the national competition. Call Shannon at 903-4698.



Flea Market/Craft Sale

April 25 Gardendale-Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church flea market, craft show and fabric sale, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hand-made crafts, yard sale items and expensive fabrics for only $5 per yard. Booth space available. Call 631-7631.



Gospel singing

May 2 A gospel singing will be held at the Gardendale Civic Center at 6:30 p.m. featuring the Steel City Quartet, soloist Abrielle Eden Mullins and Chris Mullins. Free admission. Sponsored by the Gardendale Arts Council.



Auditions

May 3, 4 The Gardendale Arts Council is holding auditions at the Gardendale Civic Center for the July musical production of “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” at 2 p.m. May 3 and 6 p.m. May 4. Casting will be for men and women ages teen to adult. Scripts will be provided. Call Lisa Parker at 631-2421 or Greg Maxwell at 631-6052.



Decoration

May 10 Friendship Community Church Decoration. Lunch will be served at 12:15 p.m. A singing featuring Total Praise will start at 1:30 p.m.



Cemetery clean-up

Friendship Community Church will have a cemetery clean-up every Saturday until Mother’s Day. Everyone with loved ones buried in the cemetery is encouraged to help clean to get ready for Decoration on May 10.



Relay for Life

May 15 The North Jefferson County Relay for Life will be held at the Kenneth Clemons Athletic Complex (soccer fields) on Fieldstown Road in Gardendale from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. The purpose of the annual event is to raise awareness and funds for cancer research. Recovery Meetings

Celebrate Recovery meetings at Gardendale-Mt Vernon United Methodist Church every Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Call Paul Wiegert at 631-7631.



TOPS Meetings

TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) meets Mondays, 6 p.m., in the Family Life Center of First Baptist Church, Room 2208. Led by Robert Pliner. Call 608-0606.



Historical Society

The Gardendale Historical Society is inviting the community to join. The Society meets the third Saturday of every month at the Gardendale Public Library. The fee is $10 a year for individuals and $15 a year for families. Call Patsy Duncan, 608-3375.



Mount Olive



Park Day

May 2 Mt. Olive Ballpark annual Park Day. Festivities begin May 1 with a parade leaving the ball park at 6 p.m. Ball games begin at 9 a.m. May 2. There will be Greentop BBQ, carnival games, prizes and more. Call Johnny MOrton at 631-1391 or Lamar Sutherland at 919-9315.



Free Child Care

There will be free child care in the Mt. Olive area for 3 and 4 year olds. The head start program is now enrolling for the summer. Regular full-day childcare is offered. Call 608-1661.



Fultondale



Yard Sale

April 24-25 Walkers Chapel Baptist Church will hold a yard sale April 24 and 25. All Proceeds go to the building fund. For more information call the church office at 841-8426.



Registration

May 22 Fultondale Elementary School will host registration, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., for all new and returning students. Make-up date is July 14, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Registration for new students only is Aug. 4, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The following documents must be provided for enrollment: Birth certificate; Social Security card; blue Certificate of Immunization (IMM-50), which should include two measles immunizations and one for chicken pox; two proofs of residence; copy of parent’s driver license; custody papers where applicable. Registration will be permitted without immunization certificate, but certificate must be presented before school begins on Aug. 12. A child’s fifth birthday must be on or before Sept. 1 to enroll in Kindergarten. Child’s sixth birthday must be on or before Sept. 1 to enroll in first grade. Mother’s Day Out

Walker's Chapel Baptist Church has Mother's Day Out every Tuesday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call Amy Ritch at 841-8426.

Wild Game Feast

April 25 Glennwood Baptist Church will have a family game day feast including fishing, gun shooting, cart rides, moon walk, dinner on April 25. Guest speaker is Mark Whitlock from Mark’s Outdoors on April 25. Events start at 1 p.m. Dinner will be served at 4 p.m. Free admission and door prizes. For more information call 681-4601.



Revival

April 26-27 Glennwood Baptist Church is having revival on April 26 at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., and on April 27 at 7 p.m. Mark Harrison, associate pastor at Gardendale Baptist Church, will be the speaker. The church is at 1929 Glennwood Road in Morris.



Mother’s Day Out

Enon Baptist Church’s Mothers Day Out program will offer childcare for children 6 weeks to 4 years old on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The program follows the Jefferson County School System calendar, so is closed during all of the breaks. Call 647-9614.

4-H Ceremony

April 23 The 2008-09 4-H awards ceremony and costume party will be held at 6 p.m. at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. Celebrate 100 yers of 4-H by dressing up in a costume from any decade between 1909 and 2009. Call Helen Drake, 325-5342, ext. 14.



Reunion

April 25 Sayreton and Fairmonth school reunions, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Gardendale Civic Center in the Garden Suite. Bring a covered dish. Anyone who lived in Sayreton or went to Fairmont School is invited. Call Anna Salter at 631-4086.

Revival

April 26 Revival at New Hope Ministries with Kevin White will take place April 26 at p.m. and weeknights at 7 p.m.



Decoration, Cleanup

April 26 Decoration Day for Sulphur Springs Cemetery. Clean-up day is May 16. Please have all flowers you wish to keep picked up by that date.



Weight Loss Classes

April 30 Free weight loss surgery classes at Walker Regional Medical Center, 4 pm. These classes will discuss surgery options and support. Call 780-7150.

    April 16 Snow Rogers and Gardendale Elementary Schools will host Kindergarten registration on April 16, 5-7 p.m. You must bring your child with you for a short assessment. The following documents must be provided for enrollment: Birth certificate; Social Security card; blue Certificate of Immunization (IMM-50), which should include two measles immunizations and one for chicken pox; two proofs of residence; copy of parent’s driver license; custody papers where applicable.     April 16-17 The Federated Garden Clubs of North End Council is hosting its 58th annual flower show at the Gardendale Civic Center. The show is open to the public on April 16, 2-7 p.m., and April 17, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, call Phoebe Limbaugh at 631-6137.



    Indoor Yard Sale

    April 17, 18 North Gardendale Baptist Church is holding an indoor yard sale on April 17 from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and April 18 from 7 a.m. to noon. If you would like to donate items contact Scott Crews at 368-8071 or the church office at 631-8079. Proceeds benefit the VBS Belize Mission Trip.

    Easter Egg Hunt

    April 11 Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will hold an Easter egg hunt on April 11 at 4 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend this event.



    Last Game at Field

    April 11 Please come out and support the Gardendale High School Rockets Baseball team on April 11. This will be the last regular season home game on the current high school field. There will be three games with the JV starting at 11 a.m. and the varsity playing the last game at 4:30 p.m.



    Revival

    April 12 Glenn’s Chapel Baptist Church will have a revival on April 12 at 6 p.m. and Monday and Tuesday at 7 p.m. Zac Reno is a 24 year-old evangelist and one of the finest of our day.     Night Time Easter Egg Hunt

    April 4 The second annual night time Easter egg hunt will take place on April 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the Moncrief Park behind the tennis courts. This event is co-sponsored by The Church Revived and the city of Gardendale. There will be food, games and prizes. Bring your flashlight. Everything is free.



    Walk For Life

    April 4 Walk for Life for the North Jefferson Women's Center will be held on April 4 at 10 a.m. Please show your support for life by joining us at this walk. For more information call 608-0757.



    Easter Egg Hunt

    April 5 There will be a community Easter egg hunt on April 5 from 3:30-6:30 p.m. at Black Creek Park.
