Bunko Night

Wild Game Dinner

Winter Wonderland Dance

Feb. 28 The sixth annual 2009 Winter Wonderland Dance with Edd Jones Band is scheduled for Feb. 28.

In preparation for the dance, Jackie Tally and Andy Anderson will be teaching lessons each Tuesday night from 7 to 8 p.m. beginning Jan. 20 through Feb. 24 in the exhibition hall at the Gardendale Civic Center.



Recovery Meetings

Senior Center Tours

The Gardendale Senior Center invites Gardendale residents to tour the center during the month of February for “Love Your Senior Neighbor Month.” This is for those who are age 60 and older or those married to someone 60 and older, or family to bring parents who need to get out and socialize or need better nutrition or exercise Hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday-Thursday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Fridays. Meals are served daily at 11:30 a.m., Bingo on Mondays and Thursdays; live entertainment on Tuesdays; exercise and speakers on senior concerns on Wednesdays; bluegrass on Thursdays; pancake breakfast and also a new introductory Spanish class on Fridays.

Free Child Care

There will be free child care in the Mt. Olive area for 3 and 4 year olds. The head start program is now enrolling for the summer. Regular full day childcare is offered. Call 608-1661.



Registration

February Mount Olive Ball Park baseball and softball youth registration will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday in February. Ages 3 and older are welcome. For more info call Darla Martin at 965-1071. Prices are $60 to $125 depending on age and division of play.



Fultondale



Revival

Feb. 15 New Hope Ministries located on Shady Grove Road and Walker Chapel Road will be having a revival. The Sloan family will be there Feb 15 at 6 p.m. The revival will continue Monday through Wednesday at 7 p.m.



Mother’s Day Out

Walker's Chapel Baptist Church has Mother's Day Out every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, call Sylvia Norton at 841-8426.

Smoke Detectors

The Kimberly Fire Department is accepting names and telephone numbers for Kimberly residents to receive a free smoke detector. Residents who are elderly, have young children or are disabled qualify to receive the detectors, which will be installed by fire fighters. Call Kimberly Town Hall at 647-5551.

Pageant

March 1 Little Miss Mortimer Jordan Pageant will be held on March 1 at 2:30 p.m. in Mortimer Jordan gymnasium. Entry forms can be picked up at Cherished Moments or by calling Cindy Sanford at 590-6275 or Lori Barnett at 590-0400.



Mother’s Day Out

Enon Baptist Church’s Mother Day Out program will offer childcare for children 6 weeks to 4 years old on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The program follows the Jefferson County School System calendar, so is closed during all of the breaks. For more information call 647-9614.

Critter Club

Ginger Tunnell (Grammy) is teaching “Critter Club” at the Birmingham Zoo. This is a one hour class for 3-5 year olds. They will learn about a new animal each week and have hands on experience with a live animal. This takes place on Tuesdays 10 -11 a.m. and 1:15 – 2:15 p.m., Wednesdays and Thursdays 10 – 11a.m. Register at the class or online at www.birminghamzoo.com (Education). Beauty Pageant

Feb. 27 The Winter Princess 2009 Beauty Pageant Sponsored by Hayden Elementary School will take place on March 14 at 10 a.m. at Hayden High School gym for children up to five years old. Benefit concert

March 7 Safe Harbor’s third annual Beacon of Hope benefit concert will be March 7, 7 p.m., at Southeastern Bible College at 2545 Valleydale Road, Birmingham. Art on the Lake

April 18, 19 Art on the Lake, an annual two-day arts and crafts event in Guntersville, is now accepting applications from artists and vendors who wish to exhibit in the show.     April 22 Choices and Consequences, a free town hall meeting for seniors, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Gardendale Civic Center. Speaker Lynn Campisi, an elder law attorney, will enlighten seniors on the many choices available to them in terms of legal issues. Sponsoring vendors will have information available.     Registration

    April 16 Snow Rogers and Gardendale Elementary Schools will host Kindergarten registration on April 16, 5-7 p.m. You must bring your child with you for a short assessment. The following documents must be provided for enrollment: Birth certificate; Social Security card; blue Certificate of Immunization (IMM-50), which should include two measles immunizations and one for chicken pox; two proofs of residence; copy of parent’s driver license; custody papers where applicable. Registration will be permitted without immunization certificate, but certificate must be presented before school begins on Aug. 12. A child’s fifth birthday must be on or before Sept. 1 to enroll in Kindergarten. Child’s sixth birthday must be on or before Sept. 1 to enroll in first grade.     Flower Show

    April 16-17 The Federated Garden Clubs of North End Council is hosting its 58th annual flower show at the Gardendale Civic Center. The show is open to the public on April 16, 2-7 p.m., and April 17, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, call Phoebe Limbaugh at 631-6137.



    Indoor Yard Sale

    April 11 Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will hold an Easter egg hunt on April 11 at 4 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend this event.



    Last Game at Field

    April 11 Please come out and support the Gardendale High School Rockets Baseball team on April 11. This will be the last regular season home game on the current high school field. There will be three games with the JV starting at 11 a.m. and the varsity playing the last game at 4:30 p.m.



    Revival

    April 12 Glenn’s Chapel Baptist Church will have a revival on April 12 at 6 p.m. and Monday and Tuesday at 7 p.m. Zac Reno is a 24 year-old evangelist and one of the finest of our day.     April 4 The second annual night time Easter egg hunt will take place on April 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the Moncrief Park behind the tennis courts. This event is co-sponsored by The Church Revived and the city of Gardendale. There will be food, games and prizes. Bring your flashlight. Everything is free.



    Walk For Life

    Easter Egg Hunt

    April 5 There will be a community Easter egg hunt on April 5 from 3:30-6:30 p.m. at Black Creek Park.
