AARP Class

July 16-17, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30.m. An AARP Drivers Safety Class will be held at the Gardendale Senior Center. $10 per workbook. Those age 55 and older who have not had an accident in three years are eligible to take the course. It could lower car insurance costs. Register at 631-7240.



Musical

July 16-18, 7 p.m. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers will be performed at the Gardendale Civic Center. Advance tickets, available at the Civic Center, are $8. After July 12, tickets are $10. Call 631-5679.



Benefit yard sale

July 18, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. A yard sale in the parking lot of Dr. Greg Osborne (by Taco Bell) to benefit pediatric cancer research at Children’s Hospital of Alabama. Used clothing for all ages, gender and sizes. Call 617-2738.



Ladies Tea, Auction

July 25, 11 a.m. The women’s group at Gardendale-Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church will host a Ladies Tea and Auction. Tickets are $7. Call 631-7631.



Senior Meeting

July 30, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Alabama Attorney General Troy King will hold a conference at the Gardendale Civic Center for all seniors in north Jefferson County about protecting yourself against fraud and scams. Talent/Variety Show

Scholarship Donations

Donations are needed for the Gardendale High School Heather Vaughn Memorial Scholarship Fund. One high-school senior receives the $750 scholarship every year. Call Susan Rice, 281-8348.



Historical info needed

The Gardendale Historical Society is looking for historical information and old pictures of Gardendale. The society meets the third Saturday of every month, 10 a.m., at the Gardendale-Martha Moore Public Library and always welcomes new members. Call Patsy Duncan, 608-3375.



Free Tot Shots

The Jefferson County Department of Health will host free tot shot clinics the fourth Thursday of each month at Gardendale First Baptist Church in the Family Life Center, 3-5 p.m.

Mount Olive

Small Groups

July 19, 5:30 p.m. First Baptist Church of Mt. Olive will host small groups for married individuals called the Love Dare Bible Study, and for singles called Fireproof Your Life. Both series start July 19 with a free showing of the movie “Fireproof” at the church. Childcare provided. Call 631-4401.



TOPS

Vehicle Show

July 31-Aug. 1 The Dixie Division Military Vehicles club will host a vehicle show at Gambles Truck Accessories on Mt. Olive Road. Free admission. Bathrooms, limited RV hookups available. Free vendor setup. Call Ronnie Guin at 631-0723.



Free Child Care

There will be free child care in the Mt. Olive area for 3 and 4 year olds. The head start program is now enrolling for the summer. Regular full-day childcare is offered. Call 608-1661.



Fultondale

Family Movie Night

The Fultondale Arts Council will host four free Family Movie Nights at Black Creek Park:

• July 21, Open Season 2

• July 28, Shrek the Third

• Aug. 4, Hotel for Dogs, plus a back-to-school bash with inflatables, waterslide and more.

Registration

Aug. 4, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Registration for new Fultondale Elementary students only. The following documents must be provided for enrollment: Birth certificate; Social Security card; blue Certificate of Immunization (IMM-50), which should include two measles immunizations and one for chicken pox; two proofs of residence; copy of parent’s driver license; custody papers where applicable. Registration will be permitted without immunization certificate, but certificate must be presented before school begins on Aug. 12. A child’s fifth birthday must be on or before Sept. 1 to enroll in Kindergarten. Child’s sixth birthday must be on or before Sept. 1 to enroll in first grade. FHS registration

July 15-16 Student registration for the Fultondale High School 2009-2010 school year will be held in the FHS cafeteria. Registration packets will be mailed to students. July 15: Seniors, 8-9 a.m.; juniors, 9:30-10:30 a.m.; sophomores, 11 a.m. to noon. July 16: Freshmen, 8-9 a.m.; 8th-graders, 9:30-10:30 a.m.; 7th-graders, 10:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Parents must present a current utility bill and sign a certificate of residency to verify residence in the FHS school zone before registering. Late registration is July 28, 5-7 p.m., for all grades.



Pageant

July 18, 1 p.m. The second annual Miss North Alabama Pageant will be held at Fultondale Elementary School. All contestants and audience members will be entered in a drawing for a cruise for two. Contestants do not have to be from north Jefferson County or have pageant experience. Singing

Bryan Registration

July 15, 8-11 a.m. Bryan Elementary School registration for new students. Bring original birth certificate, blue immunization form, Social Security card, two proofs of residence and a parent’s driver license.



NJMS Registration

July 27 is North Jefferson Middle School sixth-grade registration, 3-5 p.m; July 28 is seventh-grade registration, 3-5 p.m; July 30 is eighth-grade registration, 3-5 p.m; Aug. 3 is make-up registration, 3-5 p.m; and Aug. 6 is sixth-grade orientation at 6 p.m.



Creel Reunion

Popsicle Party

Aug. 6, 6-7 p.m. Incoming Bryan Elementary School Kindergarten students will have a popsicle party at the playground while parents/guardian will attend a conference with students’ teachers. This party is only for incoming Kindergarten students and their parents/guardians.

Yard Sale

Fireworks Show

Mother’s Day Out

Enon Baptist Church’s Mothers Day Out program will offer childcare for children 6 weeks to 4 years old on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The program follows the Jefferson County School System calendar, so is closed during all of the breaks. Call 647-9614.

    Last Game at Field

    April 11 Please come out and support the Gardendale High School Rockets Baseball team on April 11. This will be the last regular season home game on the current high school field. There will be three games with the JV starting at 11 a.m. and the varsity playing the last game at 4:30 p.m.



    Revival

    April 12 Glenn’s Chapel Baptist Church will have a revival on April 12 at 6 p.m. and Monday and Tuesday at 7 p.m. Zac Reno is a 24 year-old evangelist and one of the finest of our day.     April 4 The second annual night time Easter egg hunt will take place on April 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the Moncrief Park behind the tennis courts. This event is co-sponsored by The Church Revived and the city of Gardendale. There will be food, games and prizes. Bring your flashlight. Everything is free.
