Mortimer Jordan is still the top softball team in Class 5A and Corner's still the best in 4A, according to the state's sports writers.

Neither team saw any action last week because of rain and state testing, but each kept its spot atop the Alabama Sports Writers Association polls released Thursday morning.

In baseball, Mortimer Jordan slipped from eighth to tenth in the 5A poll, and will likely fall out completely next week after losing all five of its games in the Hoover Spring Break Tournament. In Class 6A, Gardendale dropped out of the top ten, after being ranked tenth in the first poll of the season. The Rockets did not play last week because of rain-outs; they are in the Nike Gulf Coast Classic in Gulf Shores this week.
