Many believe the hardest thing to accomplish in sports is defending a title. Last week, the North Jefferson Middle School Lady Blue Devils defended their Jefferson County middle school title with a 35-33 win over previously unbeaten Bottenfield.
The Lady Blue Devils finished with a 19-2 record this season and posted a 18-3 mark last year after winning their first county title. The two-year total for the Lady Blue Devils was a 37-5 mark and back-to-back county titles.
“We went into the game with nothing to lose,” head coach Derek Moon said. “It was going to be a great season, either way, win or lose, but I can’t say enough about how proud I am of what these girls have accomplished over the last two years.”
The Lady Devil’s Haylie McCleney was named tourney MVP after scoring 22 points, grabbing 11 rebounds and picking up three steals in the championship game. Joining McCleney on the all-tournament team were Tiffani Chaviers and Megan Smith.
