On Tuesday night, the Gardendale Lady Rockets (2-0) pounded out 14 base hits and whipped the Clay-Chalkville Lady Cougars, 6-1, to improve to 2-0 on the young season.

Gardendale collected three extra base hits, a solo home run by Kellie Johnson and two doubles by Megan Poe.

Senior Beth Erwin (1-0) took a turn on the mound, throwing a complete game, allowing five hits, walking four and striking out six batters and allowing an earned run.

At the plate, Erwin went 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Johnson also went 3-for-4. Kaitlyn Casaday went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Lauren Ellis went 2-for-3 with one run scored. Delena Kennedy walked three times and scored one run.

Poe was 2-for-4 with one RBI and scored after both of her doubles.

Lindsey Blakely went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Catcher Taylor Powell went 1-for-2.

Senior Michelle Cheatwood (2-0), started and threw three innings of two-hit ball and struck out six as the Lady Blue Devils ended the contest in only five innings.

Freshman Blair Johnson threw two innings of one-hit ball and struck out two.

At the plate, seven Lady Blue Devils collected hits.

“We hit the ball well tonight,” Mortimer Jordan head coach Laura Rickman said. “It was pretty much the whole team that hit the ball tonight.”

JOhnson went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple. She scored one run and had one RBI.

Shelbey Faucett went 2-for-3 with a double. She scored one run and had one RBI.

Brandy Worden went 1-for-2 with a sacrifice fly and drove in three runs. She scored once.

Alyssa Linn went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI. Morgan Estell went 1-for-3 and scored two runs.

Danae Hayes had a walk, a stolen base and scored one run. Erin Whitlock went 1-for-3 with one run scored. Kayla Cox reached on an error and scored one run. Logan Woodward reached base after being hit by a pitch and later scored one run.

The Lady Yellow Jackets opened their season on Tuesday night with a win.

Senior Elizabeth Allred threw a shutout, allowing only two hits and striking out seven.

At the plate, Jennifer Tolbert went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and three RBIs.

Kourtney Sloan went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two RBIs.

Haley Anderson went 1-for-3 with three RBIs.

Mandy Slatton and Lindsey Cannon both went 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Heather Anderson went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.Preslie Cruce went 1-for-2.
