Fultondale Seniors By Dorothy Byrd
Special to The North Jefferson News
We are excited about all of the things happening at the Fultondale Senior Center. We’d love to invite all seniors over the age of 60 to join us.
• We are pleased to have new people serving on our senior committee — Edna Lyne, Jean and Horace Clarke, Nellie Huett and Barbara Ingram.
This committee is a valuable part of the operation of the center. They act as ambassadors, serve meals, act as hosts and hostesses and other duties.
Committee members that have been reappointed include Bobby Byrd, Ruth and Harvey Dial, Ann Downs, Harry Reach, Lois Moman and Sue Bryant.
Horace Clark was elected secretary at our recent meeting.
• We will be having a bake sale and cake walk at Founder’s Day on Saturday. We are accepting baked goods of all kinds. If you can donate something, please call us at 849-0916.
• Magnolia Ridge assisted living will be having a cookout for us on Sept. 10. We are very grateful to them for this.
• Bingo is held each Thursday at 9 a.m. On the second Friday of the month, we feature a live band to entertain us.
• Jackie Talley with Smart Moves instructs our exercise class each Wednesday at 10 a.m. Other program is our Senior Watch program, led by Fultondale Police officer Allen Rogers. This is a very informative program that helps keep our seniors safe.
If you are a senior citizen and live in Jefferson County, we would love for you to join us.
Dorothy Byrd is the director of the Fultondale Senior Center. The center can be reached at 849-0916.

Dear Savvy Senior
What can you tell me the about the constant ear ringing syndrome known as tinnitus? At age 56, I have had it for several years but it has gotten more and more noticeable lately. Is there anything I can do?

Civitan’s ‘General’ wins major recognition
Gardendale native Robert E. Lee is revered as “The General of Recruiting” as the president of the Gardendale Civitan Club.
Lee has led the club for more than 20 years and he’s recruited about 200 people into the organization. “There’s a secret to recruiting for Civitans and I’m one of the few people that knows it,” he said. “The secret is a-s-k. You just have to ask people to join.” - Area seniors welcome in Fultondale We are excited about all of the things happening at the Fultondale Senior Center.
