November flew by at senior center

Time flies when you’re having fun, doesn’t it?

November was spent, for the most part, in preparation for four big events at our center.

On Nov. 10, our seniors were invited to the Veterans Day program at the North Jefferson Middle School. Stars were placed in the school recognizing our center’s veterans. We also participated in Wal-Mart’s Veterans Day festivities by furnishing our veterans’ pictures to be sent to Washington, D.C., for the Wall of Honor. Our own Dick Nail donated not only his time but the time of several other great musicians for Wal-Mart’s event.

On Nov. 14, our center hosted a “meet and greet” as an avenue for our community to interact with our new mayor, Ralph Lindsey, and all members of the city council. Sandy Waid, our town clerk, did a fantastic job of putting this function together. Our senior building was overflowing with wonderful people welcoming our new town leaders.

Nov. 22 was the culmination of months of work for our center fund-raiser which consisted of a car show, bake sale, craft sale, yard sale, barbecue sale and music at the North Jefferson Middle School. What fun!

Peggy Poe and Dean Allison headed up the sale of our beautiful Christmas crafts. The orders continue to pour in as people appreciate these unique Christmas gifts. Thanks to so many who donated baked goods — we had lots of delicious goodies for sale.

Davis and Edna Godsey took over the yard sale and did a great job. Don Mosley not only prepared the best-tasting barbecue you’ve ever eaten for that day, but also found time to smoke the turkeys for our Thanksgiving dinner at the center.

During the event, we were fortunate enough to have Buddy Doss and friends perform music and were followed by Digger Dan Dennis, Linda White and friends. The music was great and drew a crowd, which included some dancers.

    Dear Savvy Senior
What can you tell me the about the constant ear ringing syndrome known as tinnitus? At age 56, I have had it for several years but it has gotten more and more noticeable lately. Is there anything I can do?
