The Jefferson County Office of Senior Citizens Services (OSCS), in conjunction with the State Farmers Market Authority, will be distributing over 10,000 coupons for the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP), according to a press release.
This program is funded in part by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to provide fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs for older adults throughout Jefferson County.
To participate in this program individuals must be:
• Sixty (60) years of age or older
• Live in Jefferson County
• Income requirements:
• $1,485 per month or less for a single household
• $1,976 per month or less for a household of two
• $2,480 per month or less for a household of three
Each eligible participant must bring proof of identification, such as a driver’s license to receive a booklet of coupons valued at $30. Only one (1) booklet of coupons per person will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Below is a list of the days, location sites, and times for pick up. For additional information, call 325-1416.
The following are the dates and locations where the coupons can be picked up:
• May 23 & May 30: East Lake United Methodist Church; 7753 1st Avenue South; 8 a.m. to noon
• June 1-5: Center Point Courthouse; 2651 Center Point Road; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• June 6: East Lake United Methodist Church; 7753 1st Avenue South; 8 a.m. to noon
• June 16-18: Graysville (in the Gym); 171 Second Street S.W.; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• June 22-24: Bessemer Civic Center; 1130 9th Avenue S.W.; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• July 6-10: Alabama State Fairgrounds; 2331 Bessemer Road; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• July 13-17: Alabama State Fairgrounds; 2331 Bessemer Road; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• July 20-23: Alabama State Fairgrounds; 2331 Bessemer Road; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Civitan’s ‘General’ wins major recognition
Gardendale native Robert E. Lee is revered as “The General of Recruiting” as the president of the Gardendale Civitan Club.
Lee has led the club for more than 20 years and he’s recruited about 200 people into the organization. “There’s a secret to recruiting for Civitans and I’m one of the few people that knows it,” he said. “The secret is a-s-k. You just have to ask people to join.” - Area seniors welcome in Fultondale We are excited about all of the things happening at the Fultondale Senior Center.
