Students earn drama awards at festival

NORTH JEFFERSON — The first annual Victor Fichtner Elementary Drama Festival was held on Feb. 20 at Minor Community School. 

One hundred thirty Jefferson County elementary students participated in the festival, where they competed in four categories: Poetry Alive, Solo Acting, Duet Acting and Solo Musical.

Awards were presented after the competition with a special award being presented to Vic Fichtner, former Jefferson County supervisor of theater. The following students received awards:



Poetry Alive

• 1st place: Snow Rogers – Kassidy McGrath, Laura Bowman, Kyla Gibson, Jordan Gilbert, Parker Chambers, Jacob Nix

• 2nd place: Hillview – Mariah Williams, India Zorns, Jasmine Wright, Alivia Stevenson, Jasmine Williams

• 3rd place: Snow Rogers – Anna Marsh, Blake Hackney, Cheyenne George



Solo Acting

• 1st place: North Highland – Ariana Benedict

• 2nd place: Snow Rogers – Emily Blackburn

• 3rd place: Minor Community School – Niesha Nicholson



Duet Acting

• 1st place: Kermit Johnson – Lexie Thomas and Lacey Johnson

• 2nd place: Snow Rogers – Parker Chamber and Jacob Nix

• 3rd place: Snow Rogers – Cheyenne George and Blake Hackney



Solo Musical

• 1st place: Snow Rogers – Kyla Gibson

• 2nd place: Snow Rogers – Madison Easterwood

• 3rd place: Kermit Johnson  – Bailey McCroy

    The “lab” is actually a large, rolling metal case that charges 25 laptop computers inside of it. The case can be rolled into a classroom, where students remove the laptops from the case and use them at their desks, effectively transforming a classroom into a computer lab.
