Alabama Teen Challenge again wants area residents to “taste and see that the Lord is good.”
The second annual Alabama Teen Challenge Taste & See event is set for July 11, 6:30 p.m., at Gardendale First Baptist Church.
The name of the event is literal. For $5, those in attendance can taste cakes, pies and many other desserts from several restaurants and bakeries throughout the Birmingham area.
In addition, people can hear from the people who will benefit from the fund-raiser: The women who are in the residential program at Alabama Teen Challenge.
“People will hear testimonies and see a human video from our ladies to hear what God is doing in their lives,” said Neeley Vance with the Alabama Teen Challenge women’s center.
There will also be entertainment by George Weeks and friends. Weeks is the minister of music at Hilldale Baptist Church in Birmingham.
This year’s Taste & See brings something new to the table.
Bakers and cooks from the area can enter their own desserts.
Judges will taste the entries and award prizes for the best-tasting desserts.
All proceeds go to the Alabama Teen Challenge women’s center in Birmingham, which can house up to 31 people for its 12-month residential discipleship program.
Alabama Teen Challenge has centers for men and women. The 12-month residential discipleship program helps people who have life-controlling issues.
Tickets to Taste & See may be purchased at the door or at the Encouraging Word bookstore at Gardendale First Baptist Church.
