NORTH JEFFERSON —
Janice Carolyn Creel Cato
“Where O death is your victory? Where O death is your sting?” Janice Carolyn Creel Cato left the pain of sickness on a sunny morning October 11, 2012.
Born March 23, 1933, to parents Percy and Grace Creel, she was tiny in size but big in spirit and was gifted with talents of drawing, singing, crafting and teaching. Her tenure with the Lydia Women’s Class of Gardendale’s First Baptist was a gift to her church, along with singing in the choir for many years, working with the WMU and hosting women’s mission studies and related events.
She leaves behind many friends and a host of cousins.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Dewey E. Cato, Jr.; children Rev. Rick (Essie) Cato of Pleasant Grove; Rebecca (Ramon) Sharritt of Gardendale; Barry (Vicki) Cato of Gardendale and Kevin (Kim) Cato of Helena. Blessed with grandchildren, Kelly (Jeff) Belcher of Olathe, Ks.; Brandon Cato of Gardendale and Mallory Grace Cato of Helena, and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, October 13, with the celebration service at noon at Gardendale Funeral Home, Decatur Highway. Interment will be at Oakwood Memorial Cemetery following the service.
The family wishes to say thank you to Comfort Care Hospice for their much needed help as well as all her care givers.
