AN NJN EDITORIAL — Ora “Granny” Hood Hall Adams, December 10, 1922 – April 22, 2014, age 91, was born at home in Royal, Ala. to Bennett Hill and Gertrude Graves Hood. She is preceded in death by husbands James Alvie Hall and Euel Howard “Bill” Adams;  sister, Mildred Hood O’Byrne, and granddaughter Danielle Buckelew.

She is survived by daughters Deborah (Percy) Byrd, Tammy (David) Dodson and Donna Adams; grandchildren Paige (Robert) Mashburn, Whitney Byrd, Blake (Sarah) Dodson, Dyanna Buckelew, Dennis (Courtney) Buckelew, Dana (Chad) Ratto; and nine great-grandchildren.

She grew up working on the family farm where her favorite past-time was picking cotton. She hated gathering eggs because she never knew what was in the nest.

After graduation from Blountsville High School in 1941, she moved to Birmingham, where she attended business college. She lived in Norwood with girlfriends where they would dress up in their best dresses and high heels and go downtown to window shop and the movies on Saturday afternoons.

She worked as a bookkeeper until retirement at age 85.

When family members asked what reminds them of Granny many images come to mind: gardening, canning, hummingbirds, honeybees, green thumb, flowers and snacks after school.

She is a former long-time member of Beechwood Baptist Church where she volunteered as a cook for 20 years. She was currently a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Pinson.

Visitation is scheduled Wednesday, April 23, 2014, 6-8 p.m. and funeral will be held Thursday, April 24, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel. Services will be concluded at Hood Cemetery in Royal, Alabama.
