NORTH JEFFERSON —
Johnnie Ray Stewart formerly of Gardendale, passed away on May 30, 2013 at the age of 88 after a prolonged battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Born and raised in Cullman, along with eight brothers and sisters, he has resided the past five years in Dalton, Ga.
He was the son of the late Bertie Euel and Emma Hoenig Stewart. He is survived by two siblings, Nellie Crick of San Jose, Ca. and Lonnie Stewart (Clotilda) of Panama City, Fla.; his loving wife of 65 years, Etta Mae Stewart; children, Danny Stewart (Frances) and Connie McCarthy (Mike); grandchildren, Julie Parker (George), John Stewart (Lisa), Justin Cox (Kelly), Tracey Stewart, and Michael McCarthy; a great-grandchild, Evelyn Stewart, and a step-great-grandchild, Brandon Parker.
A veteran of the United States Navy, he served in the Pacific campaign during WWII. He was a long-time member of Gardendale First Baptist Church. He loved his children and grandchildren and tending his garden.
His family would like to thank the staffs of the Gardens at Royal Oaks and Ridgewood Manor Nursing Home, both in Dalton, Ga. for all their love and support.
Funeral services were held June 1, 2013 at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel with interment at Oakwood Memorial Gardens in Gardendale.
