NORTH JEFFERSON —
James Gilbert Hurst was born July 23, 1937 in Fultondale and passed away January 6, 2014 in Fultondale.
He has lived and worked in the community all his lifetime. He was owner of Hurst Garage and Body Shop and later, The Breakfast House.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sylvia Colvert Hurst; children, Kathy Knight, Lynn Hurst (Debbie), Pennie Carter (Jeff), Laura Miller (Jeffrey) and Melinda Szegedi (Lali); grandchildren, J.C. and Dakota Knight, Craig Hurst (Lauren), Hayden Hurst, Colton and Hunter Miller, Luke Szegedi, and Wesley and Kelsie Carter; brothers, Jerry and Donnie Hurst; favorite brothers-in-law, Charles and Greg Colvert (Linda) and favorite ex-son-in-law, Dexter New.
Many thanks to Hope Hospice nurses, Terry, Beth, David, JJ and Dr. Doug Alford, Kermit Hobbs and Gene Arwood, friends, neighbors and especially our church family at Fultondale Church of Christ who have helped us through our journey.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Jan. 7, between 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. at The New Gardendale Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Wednesday, Jan. 8, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home chapel with burial to follow in Walker’s Chapel Memorial Gardens. The New Gardendale Funeral Home directing.
