NORTH JEFFERSON —
Richard A. “Chopper” Estes, 64 of Gardendale, went home to be with the Lord on December 21, 2013 surrounded by his loving family.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette; one son, Heath Estes; one step son, Wade Hagood; one adopted son, David Estes; a sister, Valdia Walls, (Louie); a brother, Greg Estes (Connie); and his two nephews, Eric Yates and Alex Yates.
He served his country proudly in the US Navy. During the Viet Nam Conflict he was an Electronics Aviation Technician on the USS Ticonderoga. He had retired from the State of Alabama Highway Department where he was a surveyor. He was a private pilot, avid shooter and last but not least, he loved riding his Harley Davidson. Richard truly loved life.
A visitation is planned for Monday evening, December 23, at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel from 5 until 8 PM with a graveside service to follow on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Oakwood Memorial Gardens.
The family would like to express sincere thanks to East Gardendale Baptist Church for their love, prayers and support. Also, many thanks for his friends who came by to lend a hand during these difficult times.
Brother Allen Davis and Brother Eddie Burchfield will officiate services.
