Alleged shoplifter evades police after chase
An alleged shoplifter led Gardendale Police officers on a brief chase Tuesday morning. Lt. Chuck Denham said the incident happened before 8 a.m. after a black female allegedly shoplifted a computer from Wal-Mart at 890 Odum Road. Officers reportedly attempted to pull the woman over on Odum Road as she traveled toward Main Street, but the woman sped up. The pursuit then traveled to Interstate 65 south, where Denham said the suspect sped in and out of traffic before exiting at the 41st Avenue exit. However, officers terminated the pursuit shortly thereafter, Denham said.
