Friday at approximately 1 p.m., the crew was still working to complete the paving of Fieldstown Road.

Gardendale Mayor Stan Hogeland assured residents on Friday that Fieldstown Road would be reopening later in the day. Hogeland posted on Facebook that the paving project should be done at approximately 3 p.m. and the striping project should be completed after that. The tentative time for reopening was set at 6 p.m.

“Looking toward Monday, the work on the widening and turn lanes will resume,” Hogeland said in a Facebook post. “Sometimes, there will be one lane traffic with flagmen. There will be delays at certain times but you will still be able to get through.”

Hogeland also acknowledged how difficult the longer-than-expected closure had been on residents and thanked them for their understanding .

“I sincerely appreciate everyone’s patience over the last few weeks,” Hogeland’s post continued. “I know it’s been frustrating for everyone in this area.”

The reopening comes just in time, because starting Monday, Walker Chapel Road in Fultondale will be closed. According to a post on the city’s Facebook page, the closure of Walker Chapel for work on the metal bridge by the county is set to begin Monday, Oct. 8 and end Friday, Oct. 26, weather permitting.
