Bass fishing: Mortimer Jordan, Corner teams qualify for state finals
Two local high school bass fishing clubs have earned a spot in the state finals tournament next month.
Softball: Springville 2, Pinson Valley 0
Springville pitcher Piper Long threw a two-hit shutout, as the Tigers blanked Pinson Valley 2-0 in a Class 5A Area 11 softball game Tuesday.
Softball: No. 1 Curry 12, No. 5 Mortimer Jordan 4
Mortimer Jordan jumped on top-ranked Curry with a three-run second inning on Tuesday. Then the Yellow Jackets replied with a vengeance.

Baseball: Corner 10, Carbon Hill 0 (5 innings)
Chris Huff threw a five-inning no-hitter on Saturday, as Corner drilled area for Carbon Hill 10-0 in five innings.
Softball: Thompson 9, Pinson Valley 1
Pinson Valley ran into another tough opponent at the Orange and Black Invitational, as they fell to Thompson by a 9-1 score in six innings on Saturday.
Softball: No. 6 (5A) Mortimer Jordan 1, No. 5 (3A) Cordova 0
Alyson Linn hit into a failed fielder's choice, but drove home the only run of the game as Mortimer Jordan, the sixth-ranked team in Class 5A, shut out Cordova — fifth-ranked in Class 3A — by a 1-0 score in the Blue Devils Round Robin tournament Saturday morning.
Baseball: Corner 15, Carbon Hill 1
Jackson Tavel tallied 13 strikeouts, as Corner started slow but finished strong for 15-1 Class 4A area win at Carbon Hill on Friday.
