Local first-round baseball playoff schedules
Five out of our seven AHSAA baseball teams have advanced to the first playoff round, which is played this Friday and Saturday.

Baseball: Corner 11, Good Hope 0
It took a while for Corner to get going, but the Yellow Jackets broke the ice by scoring five times in the fifth inning, on their way to an 11-0 rout at Good Hope in the regular-season baseball finale.

Mortimer Jordan threw several pitchers at Oak Grove on Monday, but it was one of them who won the game with her bat more than her arm, as the fourth-ranked Blue Devils prevailed by a 4-2 score.

Leeds went out to an early lead, but it didn't last long as Pinson Valley came storming back for an 8-2 victory in Monday baseball action, the last regular-season game for both teams.

Victory Christian-Pell City traveled to Fultondale for a Class 2A Area 10 matchup, but their was no victory to be had for the Lions on Friday as they quietly fell to the Wildcats 15-3 in five innings.

Pinson Valley wrapped up the Class 5A Area 11 championship, plus home field advantage in the first round of the playoffs, after coming from behind to clip Moody 8-6 in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader Friday.

After a big win in the Bob Jones Invitational at Madison over the weekend, Corner softball coach Aaron James wasn’t liking what he was seeing early in his team’s game at Pinson Valley on Tuesday.
