GARDENDALE — Sabrina Knight scored the game-winning and insurance goals in the last 10 minutes of the game, as Gardendale defeated Oneonta 4-2 in girls soccer action Thursday.

Knight scored in the 71st minute on a rebound from a shot that Redskins keeper Emily Bugg stopped, but couldn't hold. Knight scored again in the final minute off a long crossing pass, which Bugg got a glove on but the ball wriggled free and over the goal line.

The Rockets took the early lead on a Ashley Beyer goal just two minutes into the game. Madasyn Goolsby put the Rockets up 2-0 in the 13th minutes, as she put a drive into the upper left corner of the net.

Oneonta (1-2) came back in the 51st minute on a goal by Jordan Schatz, then Joceline Zamora scored the equalizer in the 57th minute.

Rockets coach Lauralee Wallington is encouraged by the play of her young forward line.

"We've got some really strong forwards in Kylie Echols, Goolsby and Knight," Wallington said. "They're probably the quickest girls we've had in a long time. And we've got a lot to choose from for our defense as well."

There's still weakness at midfield, she added. "And that's what we've got to work on, because that's the ones running our entire game."

Kelsey Brumbeloe had six saves in goal for Gardendale (3-2).
