HOOVER — Mortimer Jordan was rolling along nicely in the Spain Park Softball Tournament last weekend, until it ran into an old foe.
Moody knocked Jordan out in the semifinal round by a 2-0 score. It the first loss of the season for Jordan.
Freshman pitcher Bailey Murphy recorded three wins and a loss for the weekend. She struck out 13 Hewitt-Trussville batters in a 6-2 quarterfinal victory, and tallied 10 strikeouts in a 2-0 win over Enterprise in pool play. She struck out eight in the loss to Moody, and also had three multi-hit games at the plate.
Jordan defeated Clay-Chalkville 7-6 in the opening game Friday, with Natalie Johnsey getting the win. After the win over Enterprise, the Blue Devils took down Central-Haneyville 10-1 and Oak Mountain 2-0 in bracket play.
Shelby Maze had three multi-hit games, including a double and a solo home run. Alexandra Copeland drove in both runs in the Oak Mountain shutout, and scored twice against Hewitt.
Jordan stands at 6-1 for the season. They are scheduled to play at Hartselle on Tuesday afternoon, weather permitting.
