KIMBERLY — Mortimer Jordan baseball coach Shayne Carnes had one word to describe pitcher Garrett Suchey’s outing: “studly.”
Suchey hurled a five-inning perfect game, benching 15 Shades Valley batters in succession with 10 strikeouts, as the Blue Devils blasted the Mounties 13-0 in the first game of a doubleheader Thursday night.
Jordan was no less dominant in the second contest, winning 17-3.
In the opener, Taylor Goodwin knocked a two-run double, Devlin Hodges was 2-for-2 and scored twice, and Sam Blair was also 2-for-2 with one RBI and three runs scored.
Marques Brown worked three innings for the Mounties, allowing five hits and five earned runs.
In the nightcap, Jutsin Folse ceded just one hit and struck out three in three innings’ work.
Suchey had a big game at the plate with three doubles in four at-bats, driving home five runs. Blair was 2-for-2 with three RBIs and scored a run, and Hodges was 3-for-4 and scored four times.
Hunter Bullock hit a run-scoring double for Shades Valley. Anthony Cromwell went all four innings on the mound, allowing 17 hits and seven walks.
The sweep runs the Devils’ season-opening winning streak to 10 games.
