HAYDEN — Alex Odom sank two free throws with four seconds remaining to break a tie, as Curry survived a chaotic, controversial ending to emerge with a 50-48 area-game victory at Hayden in boys basketball Tuesday action.
Wildcat coach Matt Glover was furiously trying to call time out while his team went with a long inbounds pass. The Cats got off a shot and missed, but rebounded the ball. They tried to get another shot off, but an official blew the play dead despite three seconds still showing on the clock. The official said that the clock did not start at correct time and that four seconds had elapsed by his count, thus ending the game.
Hayden (2-7) had double-doubles from Chris Witt with 23 points and 10 rebounds, and also Duncan Parker with 16 rebounds and 10 blocks to go with nine points.
Jarrod Owens scored 23 points and Spencer Fikes added 11 for Curry, which recorded its first victory of the season.
